What Is Blackout PVC Fabric?

Blackout PVC fabric is a variant of standard PVC coated fabric that incorporates a light-blocking layer typically a carbon black-pigmented PVC compound layer or a co-extruded opaque interlayer between the outer PVC compound faces. While standard PVC coated fabric in light colours (white, beige, grey) transmits 5–15% of incident light through the fabric body, blackout-grade fabric reduces light transmission to below 1% creating a fabric panel that appears fully dark on the interior side even in direct desert sunlight.

Blackout fabric retains all the structural and fabrication properties of standard PVC coated fabric it is waterproof, tear-resistant, weldable by HF welding, and available with FR certification. The only difference from standard fabric is the additional light-blocking layer in the compound stack.

Blackout Fabric Construction: How Light Blocking Is Achieved

Fabrication: Welding and Joining Blackout PVC Fabric

Blackout PVC fabric is fabricated by the same HF welding process used for standard PVC coated fabric the additional blackout layer does not affect weldability.
